The sun glinted in the sky, raining down rays like raindrops. A brown and gray tabby she-cat sat in the moorland that was her territory, absorbing the warmth like a furry sponge. Her fur was newly-cleaned, but she expected it to be dirty again before the moon came into sight. Battle training with her apprentice today, was what she'd planned. Luna was set to arrive soon, and Whisperstar took the time to collect herself. Silentnight's scorn at her choice was not because of proof from StarClan, but her own misgivings. Their warrior ancestors had not struck any cat dead yet, thus they must not be too troubled over WindClan's most recent choices.

(I still have to start Silent's training thread. lol)
Luna slowly walked over to where she was supposed to train. With Mellowpaw's aunt. That really sucked. Please don't bring him up! Her head was down and she stopped dead in front of the leader. A few paw-steps and she would have walked into Whisperstar. The grey tabby's head slugghissly lifted up. "I'm here." Her voice even sounded depressed.

Whisperstar looked at the young apprentice. "I wasn't kitted at sunhigh, Luna. You've been so excited to train; what's wrong?" Her gaze tried to search the tabby for the problem, but she came up with nothing. If Luna would not talk, she could not help.

Luna continued to stare at her mentor. She planned on saying nothing, but soon it all kinda burst out. "I care for Mellowpaw, but he's to be a Medicine cat!" Her pupils were dialated and her heart was beatng rapidly. She felt as though she just put her heart out on a sliver platter. What did I just admit? I hope she doesn't lecture Mellow because of this.

Silentnight's foreboding rushed to Whisperstar, along with her own misgivings, but she brushed that aside. "Luna, you and he are different than many of the other cat in the Clan. Both of you were born outside the Clan and both of you have hard difficulties being accepted. You're feelings for him are probably those any cat would have in your situation; you empathize with him. Silentnight will tell Mellowpaw about the life of a medicine cat, and your duties will take your mind from him." She hoped she sounded sure, because she didn't need her apprentice's fear, but her strength and courage. Luna would need to work many times harder than most cats, but Whisperstar told herself to have confidence.

Luna's pelt bristled a little after Whisperstar had spoken her words. The apprentice shook her head. "You're wrong!" Her eyes were peering deeply at the leader. "You don't get it! You're a leader with no mate and no kits! And now you never can have one to love and bear your own! Mellow, will be doomed to that life because YOU don't want him to be a warrior!" The words she spoke were sharp-pointed and Luna seemed quite aggrivated. Right now, at that very momnet, she looked exactly like...Silentnight.

Whisperstar's pelt bristled. This kind of back-talk was typical of Silentnight, and Whisperstar had little choice in the attitude of her medicine cat, but no apprentice was going to talk to her like that. "At least I let him in! Your mother would have him banished altogether!" Standing to full height, she glared down at Luna. "I'd also have you know I am your mentor as well as your Clan leader, and I will not have you or any other cat lecturing me." Never did her voice raise, though the anger was there. She hid the wound inside of her, re-opened by the words as if they were talons. The longing to be a queen and a mother raised inside of her, but she squelched it mercilessly. "Mellowpaw is lucky to be accepted into the Clan his father betrayed. As are you, when no cat knows where you came from."

"I'm making my point!" Luna looked up at Whisperstar, her leader and mentor. "You may have accepted him, but you've put him in a postition he doesn't want to live! Mellow doesn't want to be a Medicine cat! He's not even sure he believes he Starclan! If Silentnight trains him another cat-the true Medicine cat apprentice- is denide it because you wanted your nephew to come to power and live the life of a hermit and don't bring my past into this so you can change the subject! " Her silver eyes held a fierce anger- one she hadn't felt before- and was glaring..yes, glaring at Whisperstar. "You'll never understand! You can't understand because you don't love another this way!"

"My choices are not yours to question Luna." The thought of Chittervoice's kit learning too many fighting moves was scary, and dangerous. "If you become Clan leader one day, these choices will be yours. Now, they are mine, and you and Mellowpaw will live with it. Besides, he has not voiced a complaint against it. And even if he doesn't, you know what being a medicine cat apprentice means. Do not," she warned the silver tabby, "Get too close." Her worries also lie in Luna's safety. So long as she doubted her nephew's loyalty, any cat involved with him was in danger.

"It doesn't mean you made the right choice. We both know he wanted to be a warrior, not a medicine that pokes at herbs. You could have warned me earlier, about the getting too close thing." Luna had become so irritated and her heart seemed so broken. While her mother did have a consoling effect on her, she still yearned to be with Mellowpaw. Will I always be this way?

"Do you want duties tending to the elders, or do you want battle practice?" The harshness became softer when Whisperstar assured, "Had I known any cat could be attracted to such a contrary beast, I would have warned you. Better me than Silentnight, I suppose. Though she'd know what to tell you better than me." Shaking her head, the leader flexed her claws, her only hint of impatience.

She paid no attention to the threat. Luna attention was caught by the words of 'contrary beast'. That made her kinda spin outta control. Her eyes were wide, but still slightly narrow. "Contrary beast? You believe you're own nephew, your blood, your kin? To be a contrary beast? Is that how you treat you're almost only family? What did he do that was SO bad? Huh? Want to be warrior?" The grey tabby had just realized how this had turned from a typical training day to a 'cat-fight', tohugh she was far to involed in her own emotions to care.

"His relation to me if the only thing stopping me from driving him away. He has traitor blood and a foul attitude, you can't deny that. I'll look after him and protect him as long as I can justify it, but he's a threat to the Clan I took a vow to protect.
"With this life," Leopardsprint murmured, "I give you wisdom. Use it to make the right choices for the cats in your care."
"You're a smart cat Luna, but you're still young. Please, respect that my choices are in the Clan's best interest."

"Yes, I"m young. Yes, I'm smart. I'm strong...blah...blah...blah..." she nagged. Luna just looked to her leader mockingly. "If your so 'fearful' of him, why give him such a powerful postition in the clan? Huh? I think you don't want him to be happy! He could fall off a cliff and YOU'D CELEBRATE! You're so cruel to even consider yourself his family! If you CARED for him you'd treat him better! You treat him like fox-dung and don't think everyone doesn't notice. We all notice and yet you continue to treat him so badly! I know my mother does too, but she treats everyone that way!" Was she yelling? Either way she was frustrated, mad, angered, and most of all, heart broken.

More accusations. Opening her mouth, the WindClan leader stopped her words when she remembered a pair of eyes belonging to her littermate, gleaming in the moonlight. "Luna, go back to camp. We will begin training tomorrow. She felt the need to justify her actions, but that would only weaken her authority. Or was she afraid that her answers would sound feeble and unjust? No, her choice was the only one. No one else could understand, but Whisperstar knew.
