Mellowpaw watched Luna, both interested at the ease of her kill and jealous of how weak he seemed in comparison. His eyes narrowed as she set it down. "It's scrawny," he muttered unfairly. It was a perfectly large rabbit and an appreciated piece of fresh-kill. He couldn't even get a treed squirrel. It never occurred to him that is ill-fated adventure would have been smoother had it not required keen claws, where his were blunt. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the butterfly Luna had already spotted earlier. "Watch this," he told her, wanting to impress the she-cat. Squatting into a hunter's crouch, only favoring his left side slightly, he stalked the flying insect. When it landed on a nearby stalk of grass, the tabby apprentice leapt through the air to catch it, but it moved away at the last possible moment, leaving Mellowpaw with a mouthful of grass and dirt.

Luna was a little hurt when Mellowpaw called her catch 'scrawny'. Well it's got more muscle than you'll ever have. When he turned away to try and show off she did the honorable thing- stuck her tongue out at him- while he wasn't looking. Then her eyes watched as his attempt crashed and burned. She giggled for a second then realized the embrassment he must be feeling. "Well...it was close. Yeah! You almost had it!"

Mellowpaw erected himself, spitting out dirt. Embarrassed and feeling throughly beaten, the medicine cat apprentice grabbed his catch, not bothering a second look at the gray tabby. If it were possible, he would have blushed. As it were, he had too much pride to outright run off and console himself. Bad enough he was a weakling in her eyes, she needn't view him as a coward. Why do I care what some mystery she-cat thinks of me anyways? Luna's a mouse-brained fool. Such thoughts consoled him, until guilt crept in. Looking back, he wondered if she was following him back. He hoped she would. Maybe she would stop him again, he thought. That'd been...different. Like she'd wanted him specifically to stay.

Luna got to her paws as Mellowpaw grabbed his mouse and was leaving. Mouse-dung. How many more times can he want to leave? The grey tabby stalked over beside him and, again, tried to work her magic. "Are you SURE you don't wanna stay and hunt with me...we could just talk...if you want?"

Green eyes sparkling with amusement, Auburnsky nodded at Hazelthorn and absentmindedly curled her tail around her paws. She watched in fascination as Luna snatched up a rabbit with the greatest of ease. She really is a very skilled cat,Auburnsky mused, We shouldn't treat her badly. "Well I suppose Mellowpaw's right. Not all of us should be out here." Looking around wistfully, she added, "I guess I'll go back then. Anyone else?" Auburnsky's gaze shifted from one cat to another, hoping she wouldn't have to go back alone. She really didn't like being alone unless she wanted to be.

Hazelthorn offered immediatly "I'll come back" Crookedheart eyed her nephew oddly before nodding "I'll come along as well, I'm starving and I want to take a little nap before tonight" whatever happens I will keep my composure the powerful she-cat thought to herself. Before heading torwards camp she didnt notice that the other two cats hadnt begun to follow.
Hazelthorn looked at the other cat "I'll bet the clan will be happy to see my catch" he said as he dragged the large rabbit he had caught earlier from its small covering and started to drag it to camp waiting to see if the she-cat would follow.

Auburnsky brightened seeing that Hazelthorn and Crookedheart had volunteered to come along. She watched Crookedheart go on ahead, and then turned her gaze to the tom. As he was dragging his rabbit along, it reminded her of something. Realization struck her as she remembered her own prey she had caught earlier. Bading Hazelthorn to wait for her, she disappeared into some shrubbery and came back with a squirrel and a normal-sized rabbit. "I almost forgot these!" Auburnsky mewed, slightly embarrassed. She picked them up in her jaws, and instead of following Hazelthorn, she padded along next to him.

Mellowpaw looked at Luna carefully, then nodded. He watched the warriors distastefully, then dropped his catch. "Alright...but think fast!" Whirling around, he leaped at Luna, batting his paws at her and trying to pin her to the ground playfully. For all his contrary demeanor, he was still an apprentice and still very much young and full of energy.

Luna glanced at the leaving cats'. Suit themselves. Her head turned back and she could now focus on her friend. A smile appeared on her face as Mellowpaw agreed to stay. Then right as the playful battle began she had dropped her mouse as the tabby was pinned. The tom's paws, at her shoulders, held her down to the ground. She was amazed the scrap of fur had any strength at all. His face was close to hers and she could swear she was blushing as she looked into his brown-green orbs.

Going to nip at her ear, Mellowpaw stopped. An ocean's reflection of a full-moon trapped his gaze, and he forgot his intentions of battle. He could feel her fur, soft under his pads, and he sensed a new awkwardness that had not been there before. Somehow, he found it hardly unpleasant. Slowly, almost as if he were afraid another cat might see, he let his mouth quirk at an odd angle...a smile!

Ooo. He smiles. Luna's thoughts were almost mocking the tom, but she didn't speak them. Well, now we know he has some compassion in his heart. The two's eyes were in a trance almost like they couldn't look away. AWKWARD! Her mind was screaming. Within a few seconds her head awkwardly lifted up and, lightly, licked Mellowpaw between the ears.

The apprentice's body stiffened, then slowly relaxed again. The contact had been soothing, oddly, and he felt pacified. Still, he wasn't sure how to reciprocate. No well-timed natural instinct kicked in, and no hidden knowledge surfaced. He just...froze. Good job genius. Act stupid. Works every time!
Shyly, Mellowpaw leaned forward and touched his pink nose to Luna's. Then, hoping to end the odd feeling between them, he nipped playfully at her once more.

Luna looked at Mellowpaw as he froze. Let's hope I didn't make a mistake. Then she felt his pink nose brush her black one signalling the feeling must be mutual. Soon the tom nipped at her and she braced her paws against his shoulders. Toms...they run from emotion. Using some of her strength she tried to push him off of her. She could easily push him off due to the fact she had more strength then him. So she only used a half of her power. That way he could think he was kinda strong.

Mellowpaw smirked when he realized (or thought) he was superior in might. His ego returned, until he caught sight of the butterfly. Leaving Luna, he fell once more into a hunter's crouch, this time with great care in his balance. His body moved slowly, but with great accuracy, towards the flying creature. Step-by-step, he didn't stop until he saw it land once more. He took a single step backwards, then ran full-tilt towards it. The butterfly tried to dodge again, but Mellowpaw remembered his mistake and caught it by its closest wing. Satisfied, the brown tabby walked back to Luna and let go of his prey. Scared, the insect flew from its captor and landed on the she-cat.

Luna huffed as Mellowpaw's ego returned and he left her...for a butterfly. Great choice. Her mind mocked as it always did. A butterfly or she-cat. Obviously, a butterfly. After the tom performed his 'amazing' hunting skill he brought the insect over as if to show off. Oh please. The medicine cat's apprentice let go of the butterfly and it fluttered over to Luna and landed on her nose. It opened it's beautiful quilt-like wings and gave the grey tabby an adorable appeareance.
